Prior to Arrival

It is essential for the good health and safety of the stallion and all visiting mares that the following instructions are observed. Each mare should undergo a veterinary check before being presented at stud. They need to be C.E.M. swabbed and E.V.A. tested and these certificates must be produced on arrival. All mares must have both hind shoes removed.

It is advisable for you to check your mare to establish her cycle so that she can be presented to the stud just prior to coming into her next season. You can then confirm your arrival date and time with us. This is also the time for you to declare any special requests that you may have with regard to the keep of your horse so that we can accommodate you if possible.

On Arrival

All mares must arrive with their passport and veterinary certificates, which will be checked.  Your mare will be unloaded into a stall, where she will be wormed and kept in over night.  She will be fitted with a numbered head collar and the next day will be introduced into a field with others. Your mare will be wormed, thereafter, at regular intervals, the farrier called, if necessary, and you will be charged accordingly.

The Covering Procedure

Your mare will be introduced to the stallion over a teasing fence to safely confirm she is in season and/or she will be scanned to ascertain the optimum time to cover her. Covering will then take place and be repeated as required. Your mare will remain at grass until a veterinary scan confirms pregnancy or not at around three weeks later. In the event that your mare is unsuccessful, you will be consulted about the next possible steps. If, despite further attempts, your mare is not confirmed in foal by the end of July, covering may be started again in April of the following year. Return service for mares is on the strict understanding that the stud is informed by October 1st that the mare is not in foal. In respect of the N.F.F.R. 1st Oct. terms, if the stallion is no longer available the stud fee will be refunded.

On Departure

You will have been informed of the result of the scan and your mare can be collected at an agreed time. The account for all stud, keep fees, wormers and other costs incurred must be paid for in full prior to leaving the stud. Payment by cash, electronic transfer or cheque, if cleared prior to collection, only. Visiting mares and/or foals may not be removed from the stud until all accounts have been settled. All veterinary charges for visits, injuries, examinations and scans etc., are to be paid directly to the stud's recognised veterinarian upon presentation of their invoices.  The stud reserves the right not to release the mare and/or foals until all veterinary bills have been paid in full. V.A.T will be charged at current rates where applicable.

Responsibilities

Since this whole procedure is not without risk, a nomination form when signed by you gives Igguldon Farm Stud full authority to instruct our vets to attend to your mare in the event of an accident, illness or injury under any circumstances that may occur. All costs will be chargeable to the owner. Every possible care, attention and supervision will be taken with your mare, but the stud accepts no responsibility whatsoever for accident, theft or disease, nor does the stud give any express or implied guarantee of success. Mare owners are expected to arrange their own insurance for their mares for the duration of their stay. If a mare (and foal) is to be kept at grass, the owners will be charged accordingly if it transpires that she/they require additional daily feeding.

Owners must accept that while their horse is at Igguldon Farm Stud it is at their risk – no responsibility for the mare can be accepted by the proprietors of the stud and all liability claims, damages, costs, loss and expense of any kind whatsoever are hereby expressly excluded.

Igguldon Farm Stud reserves the right to refuse entry to the stud to any mare or foal that they consider to be an unacceptable health risk.
